Nuequén has the notoriety of being the largest city in the Patagonian.  It has a population of 224,685, which makes it about the size of Durham, North Carolina.  There are also smaller cities in very close proximity, making it a rather large metro area.  Plotter is less than a half mile away with a population of 25,000 and Cipolletti sits a mile away across the river with a population of 87,000 people.  Nuequén sits at the cross roads of two major highways and is at the intersection of two major rivers.  Because it is located in the Patagonian with less than 10 inches of rainfall a year, the rivers flowing next to Neuquén play a vital role in the agriculture.   The density in the city is 3,600 people per square mile which is about 300 more than Atlanta.

I have been in contact with a missionary who lives nearby in Neuquén who works in the rural areas with the Mapuches (a indigenous people group living in southern Chile and western Argentina).  This missionary has told me about two pastors there in the city.  Pastor Lopez and Pastor Martinez have two churches going, but there are no churches at all in the surrounding cities and towns.  A great work is needed here.  Will you pray for these two pastors this week that God would use them in a great way to reach Neuquén and the surrounding area?  Pray also that God would send more workers to this needy field.
