There has been some very interesting news recently concerning the Falkland Islands. You can click here to read the story.

In April of 1982 Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in an attempt to establish sovereignty over the islands that they had long claimed to have.  The Falkland Islands were the property of England. A war ensued between the two countries that lasted from April to June of that year. The war ended with Argentina being defeated and very strained relations between the two countries.

Over nine hundred men lost their lives, and there were twenty three hundred wounded during the conflict.  This is still a very sensitive subject in Argentina.  While visiting there I saw many things written in graffiti about Argentina’s ownership of the Islands.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the world of politics.
