Mark 1:1 “The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”

Mark 1:1 “The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”

It is interesting to see the different perspectives in each of the Gospels.

Mark jumps right into the ministry of Christ, beginning with John baptizing on the banks of the Jordan.  In Matthew we see Christ as King, and the book begins with His lineage from Abraham.  The book states that Jesus is the Son of Abraham and the Son of David, thus tying Him to all the promises made to Abraham and to David.

There are no shepherds in the nativity as described in Matthew, but we do find wise men bearing gifts fit for a king.  Luke focuses on the humanity of Christ; His lineage goes all the way to the first man, Adam.  We find more details surrounding His birth and childhood in Luke, where He is known as “The Son of Man.”

Luke uses this description 25 times.  John goes all the way back to the beginning to show that Jesus has always been; He is the Logos, the Creator of all things, Light, and Life.  He is God.  What can we say to all this?  That Christ is a complex person.  Fully human and fully divine.  Let’s be careful not to emphasize one aspect over another, as each is equally important. As you read your Bible, allow these different aspects of the person of Christ to help you to view Christ in ALL of His glory and wonder.

Three Conversations:

Last Thursday the Lord opened up an opportunity for me to witness to three different men. Carlos #1: Carlos is a plumber who came by the house to modify some of the pipes so we could install a dishwasher. When he had finished his work, he and I talked for close to an hour. I gave him a tract and explained the purpose of our move to Argentina.
